Fantastic Falcons
A very warm welcome to Year 6!
We hope you’ve had a fantastic summer and are ready for an exciting year ahead. This is a big year – full of learning, new challenges, and plenty of fun along the way! Please keep checking our class page regularly for updates, useful resources, timetables, and a celebration of all the wonderful learning taking place.
In Year 6, we believe that teamwork between children, parents/guardians, and teachers is the key to success. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or need support – you can contact the school office to arrange a meeting, drop me an email: sara.brennan@hawthorn-tree.lincs.sch.uk or send me a message on Class Dojo.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs Brennan and Mrs Blakeborough
Homework 📝
Homework will be set each week to help consolidate classroom learning. Please encourage your child to complete tasks on time and do their best – a little bit each week makes a huge difference!
Monday – Grammar and Spellings (to be returned the following Monday, spelling test included)
Tuesday – Reading records checked & Reading Comprehension (to be returned the following Tuesday)
Thursday – Maths (due the following week) + 10 minutes or more of TT Rockstars practice
✨ Top Tip: If your child finds homework tricky, please let me know – we’re always here to help!
Reading 📚
📖Reading books and records must be brought into school every day.📖
Reading at home is one of the best ways to support your child’s learning.
Please listen to your child read at least 3–5 times a week and sign their reading record.
Cocoa Club ☕🍪
Children who complete their reading loyalty cards are invited to join our Cocoa Club – a special treat time with a delicious hot chocolate and biscuit. In the summer months, we’ll swap to ice lollies to cool down!
🎉 Children will earn raffle tickets (up to 5 per week) for reading at home. These will be entered into our half-termly prize draw! 🎉
We love reading together and celebrating books – your encouragement at home makes all the difference.
Spellings ✍️
Spellings and an activity will be handed out each Monday and returned the following Monday for testing.
Activities are designed to help children understand the meaning and use of each word.
P.E. 🏃♀️🏀⚽
PE is an important part of our week, so please make sure children have the right kit.
Tuesday – Indoor PE
Thursday – Outdoor PE (weather permitting)
Children will need:
Black/navy shorts and a white T-shirt
Joggers/leggings and a sweatshirt/long-sleeved top for outdoors
Plimsolls or trainers
For safety:
Earrings must be removed or taped over
Long hair should be tied back
If you have any questions, big or small, please just ask – we’re all in this together and I’m looking forward to a brilliant Year 6 with you all!
