Spellings day is Tuesday - Please bring your spelling folder every Tuesday

 

Indoor PE day is Monday for Terms 1 & 2.

 

Outdoor PE day is Wednesday

 

On PE days please come to school in the appropriate PE kit.  

 

Please ensure that your child brings their reading book and folder and water bottle every day.  These must be clearly labelled.  

 

Please read your child's reading book at home every night and sign their home school diary. Please return this every day.

Parent video: How to say the sounds

Throughout school, we follow the Read, Write Inc phonics scheme. Here is a short clip to show you how we pronounce sounds. The smallest unit of sound is called a phoneme. It is important that children use the correct phoneme to help them with their reading and writing skills.

 

Events

 

#HelloYellow day is on the 10th October.  Children can come to school wearing something yellow.  A letter/message will be sent with further details closer to the time. smiley

 

Today the children have all participated in the sponsored FUN RUN!

Flower hunt

 

Today we started our topic of Plants and Animals by taking part in a flower and plant hunt around school looking for different wild and garden plants!

Frogspawn

 

We had an exciting delivery this morning of frogspawn! We are going to watch the frogspawn produce tadpoles and see how they grow over the next two weeks!

D&T - Today we made paper puppets of animals. We tried out different joining methods and tried to make our puppets looks interesting.

D & T - Puppets. Today we made rabbit puppets using paper.

World Book Day - we have enjoyed reading our special books to our friends in Reception class. We have created our own dance about the story, 'Where the Wild Things Are'.

Sheep

 

Today we had the opportunity to meet sheep! We learnt about all the different breeds of sheep and could even feed them digestive biscuits! We watched a video on how we make wool from a sheep's fleece and we were even given some fleece to make our own sheep!

Art - Today we completed our final art piece for this term. We used pastels to create a background and added our Pudding Lane houses. We then used a dripping technique to finish our art in the style of Jackson Pollack. Our designs are of the houses on Pudding Lane during the great fire of London.

Maths -Today in maths some children recognised and ordered numerals 0 to 20.

RE - Today in RE we acted out the Creation Story.

Trunk Theatre
This morning, the children have had a visit from Trunk Theatre. They performed the story of The Great Fire of London, explaining how and when it begun, including how the fire spread and how long it lasted for. During the performance the children also got the opportunity to learn a sea shanty song as well as dance with the king.

Windmill workshop

 

Thank you to all the parents who came to our windmill workshop linking to our DT learning. It was lovely to see you all joining in with our model building and bringing the children’s windmill designs to life! 

Spring Term 

 

Bread Making

Today the children worked in groups to make homemade bread using flour, water, oil, salt and yeast.  

 

 

Autumn Term 2

Christmas Party & Playtowers

 

The children had SO much fun this morning at Playtowers and then their Christmas party this afternoon where we played party games and enjoyed our party food! Thank you to all the children who brought food in! What a fantastic day!

Santa Dash

Today we took part in the school's Santa Dash.  The children took part in a variety of Christmas themed fun games with the other children in Year 1 and Year 2.  The children all had a lot of fun with lots of giggles and smiles along the way.  

Christmas Dinner!

 

We all enjoyed our Christmas dinner wearing our Christmas hats!

Christmas Craft Day

Today we took some time to make Christmas crafts and do some Christmas activities.  We are all feeling very festive! 

Sheep!

 

We were lucky enough to have the sheep come and visit us today and tomorrow to celebrate our nativity! All the children had the chance to see them and ask questions about them! 

D&T

Today in D&T we tasted different types of bread.  We used our 5 senses to explore the bread.  Then we used adjectives to describe it.  

Children In Need

 

Today we met Pudsey Bear as part of our Children In Need celebrations.  

Bright Day!
 

On Friday we celebrated Bright Day! We were lucky enough to have the fire engine come and visit us and talk about fire safety and all the key features of a fire truck! We had the chance to explore the equipment and listen to the sirens (which were very loud!) 
 

Computing

 

In computing we have been looking at using the laptops and the website ‘Sketchpad’ to help us build skills in creating images, dragging images to different sizes and creating repeating patterns on a coloured backgrounds. It’s really challenged us to work out how to use laptop tools and how to use programmes in the internet.

 

We also always mention internet safety when using the internet. Ask your child and see what they can remember about staying safe online! 

Autumn Term 1

TT Rockstars

 

All Year 2 children have been sent out their TT Rockstar logins. This is to allow children to practice their times tables and develop fluency in answering them. A letter was sent home with your child and their log ins are also stuck in the front of their reading record books.

Please try and practice these with your child 3 times a week.

Science

 

Our Science topic this term is Animals Inc Humans. For our first lesson we learnt about the food pyramid and all the different foods we need to create a balanced diet. The children were each sent home a food diary to complete. Please complete these for next Tuesday's Science lesson :) 

R.E

 

This term we will be learning about Judaism.  We will be learning about some of the Jewish festivals and traditions.  

Today we have been learning about Sukkot and we built our own sukkah Hut.

Art

 

This term we will be exploring collage and manipulating materials in different ways.  For example, twisting, folding, bending, pleating etc.  We will also be making our own tie dye art.  

Butterflies

 

Over the weekend our caterpillars have hatched out of their chrysalis and we now have four butterflies! We’ve been feeding them sweet food and will be letting them free outdoors this week!

Yesterday we released our butterflies out into the wild! We managed to have a chance to hold them and look at the patterns on their wings and watch them fly away! 

P.E.

 

Today in P.E. we practiced skipping! We practiced on our own then we joined with a partner to learn rope control then we worked in threes to practice our jumping! It was great fun!

Geography

 

In Geography we have been learning about Poland. We have compared our cultures, education and homes to those in Poland and even learnt a bit of Polish language! Today we looked at a Polish Christmas to see what similarities and differences we could find! We drew who we would have around our Christmas table and a traditional Polish Christmas dinner. We then wrote some sentences discussing our comparisons! Take a look at our fantastic work! 
 

Reading Cafe
