Science - Dissecting Tulips
In science we have been looking at the different parts of flowers. We were able to work in partners to identify the different parts and their functions: stigma, stamen, ovule, petals, stem, leaves.
Kind Henry VIII’s Wives…
In our history lesson with Miss Bennett this week, we have been learning about the Tudor Monarchy. In particular, we looked at King Henry’s six wives and the rhyme to remember what happened to them- divorced, beheaded and died, divorced, beheaded, survived!
We then made freeze frames to represent each of the wives.
Fun Run
In order to raise money for the Pilgrim Hospital Chemotherapy suite, we have taken part in a sponsored fun run. They were extremely determined to keep going and we are very proud of them. Please return sponsor forms and donations by Friday 26th April.
Down Syndrome Awareness Day - Thursday 21st March
On Thursday 21st March, the children are allowed to wear 'odd socks' for Down Syndrome Awareness Day- we look forward to seeing their array of different socks.
DT - Robot Waving Arms
In our DT lessons, we have started to think about what materials we can use to make a light up robot. We started by considering how we can make the robot arms move. We carefully followed instructions, measured card and attached them using split pins and a pulley to make it where the hand could wave.
Term 4 - Otters
This term in DT we will be making robots using a range of materials, including a circuit light. In our English unit, our focus will be on superheroes, and we can’t wait to share some of our fantastic writing on our web page. In maths, we will be starting to look at fractions before moving on to mass and capacity. We will continue to assess our times tables knowledge throughout this time as the children are expected to know their 2s, 5s, 10s, 3s, 4s and 8 times tables by the end of year 3. In science, we will continue to learn about animals, including humans- particularly paying attention to the skeleton and organs that allow us to live. Our Geography unit will be all about earthquakes – exploring why earthquakes happen, some examples of earthquakes and what to do if you are unfortunate enough to experience an earthquake.
February Half Term Homework
Throughout the week, it is vitally important that you practice your times tables. All children should be aware of their TTRS logins. If there is a problem, then you can message on Class Dojo to have a digital copy of login details.
Alternatively, children have enjoyed using the Hit the Button game below-
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
All pupils should have at least three reading signatures this week. This does not have to be the full book. This can simply be five minutes of reading and discussion of the text per signature. Don't forget, reading before bed time can be the ideal way to relax and wind down after a busy day!
Identifying Features of Non-Fiction Texts
In today's English lesson, we have been identifying features of non-fiction texts. Please see the poster below as a reminder...
Mrs Palmer's School Values Poster Competition
This week, Mrs Palmer has launched a competition for all children to take part in. The children need to design a bright and colourful poster that displays our school rules and values: Resilience, Respect, Diversity, Compassion and Innovation.
The winning poster will be professionally printed and displayed around our school.
Home Learning Activity
This term we are really pushing the skill of tying shoe laces. Please support us by encouraging your child to practice at home. Please see the poster with pictures below, or alternatively there are a range of online video / tutorials.
Spring Term 1
This term our topic is Stone Age, where we will be exploring the different historical eras. The children will be creating cave paintings and dwellings, as well as finding out about what life in the Stone Age was like. In science, we will be exploring animals including humans through a variety of investigations. The children will be able to group and classify animals as well as identifying the functions of the human body. Our English writing focus is on Robots, where the children will be creating a piece based on Planet Unknown and linking this to our Art and DT topics. In Art, we will be looking at the artist Eric Joyner and using his work to inspire our own pieces. Our focus this term in maths continues with our multiplication and division learning, as well as applying this to solving reasoning problems. In order to support this, please remember to access TT Rockstars as this will benefit their understanding of multiplication and division. Weekly reading and spelling practice continues as part of the children’s homework.
Holiday Homework
1. Read 'Twas the night before Christmas.
2. Watch a Christmas film.

As part of our Year 3 fundraising, we would like your help in creating a bonfire themed hamper to raffle. Please see below for a list of suggestions- all donations gratefully received!
All children are welcome to purchase tickets from the Year 3 cloakroom at break times, starting on Monday 16th October. Tickets are £1 a strip. The raffle will be drawn on Friday 3rd November.
