Year 2 Miss Morris

Welcome to Badger Class

Piet Mondrian
Today in Art we looked at another artist called Piet Mondrian who also used primary colours to create his paintings. The children all did a fantastic job!!

Jackson Pollack

Today in Art we have started looking at what primary colours are and how they turn into secondary colours. When today’s masterpieces are dry we will be turning them into pieces of art in the style of Jackson Pollack!

Windmills

In DT we have been learning about how to make bread. We started by looking at the process of how flour’s made and then made our own bread buns. To end the topic the children have also had the opportunity to design and create their own windmill with moving sails!

School Christmas Lunch

Class Hamper : Crisps

Remember to bring in money to buy raffle tickets for your chance to win a class hamper. £1 for a strip or 20p each.

Children in Need

Anti-Bullying Week

On Monday we had Holly and Cookie from BUFC come and present us an assembly on Anti-Bullying, reminding the children what bullying looks like and what they are to do if they think it is happening to them.

Their given challenge was for the children to all do or say 'one kind thing' everyday this week, so below are 40 Acts of Kindness that your child may wish to use.

Firework Poems

Here are some of our firework poems. We worked as a class to build up adjectives to describe bonfire night through our senses. We then worked in pairs to create firework poems describing what we could see, hear and smell. We also learnt what an expanded noun phrase is!!

💥 Bright Day 💥

Today the Year 2’s dressed up in bright clothing and learnt about the safety of when being around fireworks and bonfires. They made their own rockets, created firework paintings as well as completing lots of other firework related activities.

They were also lucky enough to have a visit from the Fire Brigade. Getting to look round the fire engine.

Sukkah Hut Building

Today the year 2’s got to sit inside a handmade sukkah hut. They learnt why the Jewish people have sukkah huts, what they use them for and what they’re made out of. It was a wonderful experience for them all!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN Badgers!

It was wonderful seeing lots of you from Badger class at the PFA Halloween Disco this evening. Thank you parents for bringing them and making a great effort towards their costumes!

#HelloYellow Day!

Harvest Festival
Together in RE with Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Orrey, the Year 2 children discussed what Harvest Festival is and why we celebrate it. Then Mrs Freeston spoke with the children about flower arranging as well as giving the opportunity to all the children to have a go at arranging a flower themselves. It was a lovely experience for all of Year 2 to celebrate Harvest together.

Art: Material Experimenting

To begin our unit of art today the children had the opportunity to experiment different ways to change the texture of paper. For example: Twisting a single piece of paper, folding together two/three pieces of paper, creating curls etc. From the photos below you can see what a fabulous job they did!!

& for our art lesson this week, we have continued experimenting different ways to display materials. This week we have used a variety of donated fabrics. Creating different textures and patterns.

Good evening,

Following the meeting for the Rand Farm residential trip we would just like to let you know that there are only a few places left for those who wish to attend the residential trip.  If you would still like your child to attend please can you complete the deposit payment by the end of this week, thank you. The balance of the trip will not be due until the end of January.

Thank you,

Mrs Jenkins and Miss Morris

British Food Fortnight

To link with our current English and Science topics we have chosen to focus on the British Food Fortnight for some of our lessons. Today we have finished writing our BOSSY instructions on how to make chocolate crispy cakes. Then of course we got to make them and eat them as a treat at the end of the day!!

Poland

Today in our Geography lesson we have started our topic on Poland. The children first got to explore the atlas’ with their partner, they then had to locate different countries in Europe - especially Poland. We then discussed what countries we would have to travel through if we wanted to drive from Boston to Poland. Super pair work Badgers!!

Oliver’s Vegetables

Our first English lesson related to ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ where the children had to match vegetables (& fruits) with the letters of the alphabet. They all did a fabulous job of labelling their drawings!

Hello Badgers! It’s Miss Morris here.. I hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to starting your new journey in Year 2. Before we begin working hard on our Year 2 curriculum, we are looking forward to helping you settle in over the first few days. You will get to meet all of the adults who are in our classroom for the year, learn our daily routine and of course catch up with your friends!

Important September Information for Parents

Spellings will be on a Monday. Your child will bring home their first set of spellings on Monday 13th September and will have their first spelling test on Monday 20th September.

PE for our class is on a Thursday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor, weather permitting). Please ensure that your child's PE kit is in school each week for these sessions. Your child will need appropriate clothing and footwear for both indoor and outdoor PE.

Due to current circumstances there is still no Golden Time on a Friday afternoon, however we will have a ‘Golden Afternoon’ at the end of each term. During this time the children will be able to use toys from our classroom, NOT from home.

If you wish to speak/discuss something with me regarding your child, then please continue to go to the office to arrange a telephone appointment. I am happy to help answer any of your questions :)

We look forward to meeting you all on Monday Badgers! From Miss Morris, Mrs Stevenson, Ms Taylor, Mrs Tyler and Mrs Slawson x
