Plant workshop
Thank you to all the parents who came to our plant workshop today! The children had a lovely afternoon and we hope you did too!
Geography
In Geography we have been learning about the United Kingdom. In today’s lesson we focused on facts about Northern Ireland. With our partner we had to find facts on the playground and read them then share the facts with our friends. We even practiced some an Irish dancing! We then wrote our facts down!
Science
Today in Science we planted our own bead seeds! We are going to watch them grow over the next few weeks and see if we can identify the parts of the plant and document each week what changes have happened. We also payed a plant identification game examining wild and garden plants. We even went onto the field to see if we could spot any of these plants!
Maths
In maths we have been looking at measuring objects using non-standards units of measurement. Part of our learning activity today was drawing around our hand and using paper clips to measure the length from our thumb to our little finger! We had lot of different measured amounts!
Maths
Today in maths we practiced our numbers to 100 by playing a game of rolling the dice and moving the amount of spaces and identifying which number we landed on. We then had a competition to see which children could reach 100 first!
Science
We used different materials to test if our three little pigs houses were waterproof, water resistant or absorbent. It was fantastic to see all the children engaged and helping to build the houses and test our theories!
Today we had our reward of extra playtime for winning the attendance award for KS1! Well done Hedgehogs!
Maths
Today in maths we looked at partitioning numbers. We split our numbers into tens and ones using part whole models! We could clearly see how numbers are made and used base 10 equipment for really tricky numbers!
Science
This afternoon in science we tested different materials to see whether they were waterproof and would work as an umbrella. We were super investigators!
Today we enjoyed reading our library books with our friends!
Mini Tennis
Today we were lucky enough to have tennis coaches in and teach us some tennis skills!
Number bonds to 20
In maths we focused on number bonds to 20. We made our own ten frames on the carpet and used triangles to represent numbers to see how many number bonds to 20 we could make!
Science
Today in Science we started our new topic of Materials. We explored different objects and discussed the materials they were made of, then had a material hunt around the classroom to see if we could find different materials.
Super science work Hedgehogs!
Christmas Dinner
Today we wore our crowns for our Christmas Dinner!
Computing
Today in computing we have continued using the programme ‘Sketchpad’ to create our own self portraits. We practiced using shapes and the pen tool and different colours to create our images!
Local area walk
This afternoon we went on our local area walk discussing all the different homes we could see and everything we could hear. We saw bungalows, caravans and flats! The children have also remembered lots from maths as they were spotting lots of 2D and 3D shapes!
Pudsey Bear came to visit in preparation for Children in Need day on Friday!
Hedgehog house
As part of our science topic of seasons we learnt about hibernation. The children created a hedgehog house in our nature garden. We filled it with dry leaves and grass to keep the hedgehog warm and used sticks and leaves on the outside to camouflage it!
We’ll be keeping an eye out to see if we have any hedgehog visitors!
Maths
In maths we have moved onto addition and subtraction and have been learning about part whole models! We practiced using hoops to make a part whole model and objects to represent numbers and wrote number sentences to match. It really helped us understand how two parts added together make a whole!
Space Day
We’ve had a super space day today! We started with our visit from the planetarium where we learnt about the different planets and the stars and it really felt like we were in space! Thank you to all the parents who came in and brought junk modelling materials to make a rocket with your child. What a spectacular space day!
History
Today we learnt about Boston Stump as part of History. We took part in a virtual tour online and discussed all the different features of the church. We then went outside to see if we could find Boston Stump from the playground which we could!
We even had the chance to draw our own Boston Stump!
Our first day!
We have had a fantastic first day in Y1! We listened to everyone’s exciting adventures they had over the summer and had a chance to showcase our writing and maths skills! In the afternoon we had some fun exploring the classroom, having a bit of a dance and reading a story in our new library! Well done to all the children today! Please don’t forget to sign up to Class Dojo so you can keep up to date with any messages :)
