Pudsey Bear came to visit in preparation for Children in Need day on Friday!

Today we spent some time reading out library van books and enjoying reading for pleasure.

English - this week in English we have been learning about Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs.

Today we continued to learn about fossils. We designed our own fossils which we will make out of salt dough next week.

Hedgehog house

As part of our science topic of seasons we learnt about hibernation. The children created a hedgehog house in our nature garden. We filled it with dry leaves and grass to keep the hedgehog warm and used sticks and leaves on the outside to camouflage it!

We’ll be keeping an eye out to see if we have any hedgehog visitors!

Halloween fun!

This term we have been learning about the seasons. We have been looking for changes linked to Autumn. This week we made collages using natural materals.

Maths

In maths we have moved onto addition and subtraction and have been learning about part whole models! We practiced using hoops to make a part whole model and objects to represent numbers and wrote number sentences to match. It really helped us understand how two parts added together make a whole!

Space Day

We’ve had a super space day today! We started with our visit from the planetarium where we learnt about the different planets and the stars and it really felt like we were in space! Thank you to all the parents who came in and brought junk modelling materials to make a rocket with your child. What a spectacular space day!

RE - Today in RE we learned about Christianity. We learned about what it means to be Christian and where Christians go to worship God. We learned about the role of vicars and how they help Christians. Below are the photographs of our own vicar peg dolls, make by the children.

Art - Today in art we explored making patterns and textures using paintbrushes and objects. We created art in the style of Eric Carle.

History

Today we learnt about Boston Stump as part of History. We took part in a virtual tour online and discussed all the different features of the church. We then went outside to see if we could find Boston Stump from the playground which we could!
We even had the chance to draw our own Boston Stump!

RE - In RE we talked about churches and looked at stained glass windows. We then had a go at making our very own stained glass window.

Our first day!

We have had a fantastic first day in Y1! We listened to everyone’s exciting adventures they had over the summer and had a chance to showcase our writing and maths skills! In the afternoon we had some fun exploring the classroom, having a bit of a dance and reading a story in our new library! Well done to all the children today! Please don’t forget to sign up to Class Dojo so you can keep up to date with any messages :)
