Science
This term, we are continuing to explore our learning all about seasons. Today the children learned all about hibernation and how the seasons affect animals. The children then made their very own hedgehogs out of clay and twigs! Have a look at the photos below to see their wonderful creations.
Please have a look at the PowerPoint on hibernation below if you'd like to review this with your child.
We had a wonderful day supporting the charity 'Young Minds' today. Thank you for your generous donations.
The children (and adults!) enjoyed some yoga in PE today, as part of our focus on 'Young Minds'. Once we completed the yoga, we chatted about how it made us feel. The children responded with, "It makes me feel calm and relaxed", "It makes me feel peaceful", "I feel happy", "I feel quiet". We built upon these responses and the children were reminded about how exercise makes us feel good.
Later, I shared the story 'Ruby's Worry' and the children learnt that if worries are shared, they start to shrink! I have attached a YouTube video of the story below. You may wish to revisit it with them at home.
Maths
In Maths, we have been learning about the part-whole model. It is quite an abstract concept but the children are working hard to master it. Please use the link below to revisit this concept with your child if you wish.
In English, we have shared the book 'Kind' by Alison Green. The children then talked and wrote about all the ways they can be kind. They have had some wonderful ideas of how we can all be kind to one another. Please see some examples below! We are so proud of the effort the children are putting into their writing. What super stars they are!
In history we are learning about St Botolph's Church which most of us call Boston Stump! The children went on a little mission to see if they could see St Botolph's Church from our playground and were delighted when they could! We talked about some of the features of St Botolph's Church such as the very tall tower and the stained-glass windows. We will be learning some more facts over the coming weeks too! Upon returning to the classroom, the children then used photographs to support them in drawing St Botolph's Church. They look fabulous!
Welcome to the Year 1 Robins class page! We are so excited to be back at school and have already enjoyed some wonderful activities. Please have a look at the photographs below to see what we have enjoyed so far! I have also included a photograph of the classroom so that you can see the HUGE transformation that has taken place. It is very exciting!
I will endeavour to update our class page at least once a week so that you can share in our learning adventures too...
