Welcome to Deer Class!
We hope you have all had a fantastic summer break, and you're all set to start year four!
Mrs Rodgers, Miss Neal and I are looking forward to spending the next year with you. We already have so many plans for this year, and look forward to sharing them with you. Please refer back to this class page for regular updates with information about your child's learning and events. In addition, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school to arrange a time for us to have a chat, or send me an email sally.scullion@Hawthorn-tree.lincs.sch.uk Children learn best, and are happier in school, when their teacher and their parents/carers work together.
Homework
Maths
Maths homework will be given out on a Friday, to be handed in the following Wednesday. This will include 10 minutes of TTRockstars each week. TTRockstars has proved a very successful method in previous years to help children learn their times tables, which in turn increases their confidence in Maths.
Reading
The children will read every day in class, and will also have a class story book. It is also very important that children read at home, to increase their vocabulary and general knowledge. Being able to become engrossed in a good book is a wonderful gift for any child! To encourage reading, we have the 'Going for Gold' reading challenge throughout the year.
Children need to read at least 3 times a week and must have their reading record signed by an adult. Your child's reading book and reading record MUST be brought into school each day, to monitor their reading progress.
Spellings
Your child will bring home spellings and an activity each Monday, to be returned the following Monday for a spelling test. The activities are designed to help your child understand the meaning of the words.
If your child is struggling with homework, please encourage them to ask for help or let us know.
PE
Deer class have indoor PE on Monday and outdoor PE on Friday. Your child will need black or navy shorts, white T shirt, joggers and a long sleeved top, with plimsolls or trainers. For safety reasons, earrings need to be either removed or taped over. Long hair must be tied back .
