In the Hedgehog's Class, there will be Miss Banks (Monday-Wednesday and Friday), Mrs Wright (Thursday), and Miss Moore supporting your child's learning.
Please check this page regularly to see what your child has been learning in year 1. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Wednesday - Inside PE (Please come to school in your PE kit).
Thursday - Outside PE (Please come to school in your PE kit).
Everyday - Please ensure your child brings their reading book and reading record to school everyday. These are stored in their homework folder to protect their books.

5.6.26 - Today in RE, we explored the idea of special places. The children identified places that are important to them, including their homes, our school and the park. However, the most popular answer by far was their grandparents' houses! It was wonderful to hear the children share their happy memories and special stories about spending time with their families.
3.6.26 - Today in PE, the children focused on aiming at a target!
1.6.26 - This week is Empathy Day Festival, we made empathy glasses!
21.5.26 - DT day! The children learnt about food preparation and hygiene. We started the day by reading the story 'Oliver's Fruit Salad'. This discussed the importance of trying new fruits and how we can grow and source different fruits depending on the climate they grow in. We completed a whole class tally chart where we found out our favourite fruit was banana! In the afternoon, the children had a visit from Asda Steve where they tried many different food preparation techniques, including grating, peeling, chopping and scooping to make their own fruit salad.

5.3.26 - Today was World Book Day. We celebrated by dressing up as characters or in our pyjamas. We held a colouring competition to draw our favourite character from a book.
4.3.26 - Today in RSHE, the children talked about their feelings and then created their own emotional toolkit.
26.2.26 - Today in maths, we were learning about length and height. We had a go at measuring objects in our class room with cubes.
24.02.26 - Today in Science, the children planted their own bean! We are very excited to watch them grow!
24.2.26 - Today in English, we read Jack and the Beanstalk, and then used role play to retell the story.
13.2.26 - Today in RE, the children finished made lanterns to celebrate Eid.

10.2.26 - Today in science, the children tested different materials to see if they were waterproof. The children then build a house for one of the ‘Three Little Pigs’ and tested if they were waterproof.
9.2.26 - Today in English, we looked at non-fiction texts. The children learnt all about wolves, and created mindmaps to share their information.
6.2.26 - Today in RE, we looked at ‘Eid al-Fir’ and the children decorated their own lantern.
5.2.26 - Today in music, the children used different instruments to tell the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’.

2.2.26 - Today in history, we looked at homes now and in the Victorian Era. The children noticed one of the big differences was electricity!
28.1.26 - Today in PE, the children used the indoor apparatus to show the different shapes they have been learning, we saw lots of stars, straights, tucks, straddles and pikes!

19.1.26 - Today, Boston Tennis Club visited Year 1 and introduced different ball skills and took turns hitting the tennis ball. The children will be receiving a letter offering them 3 more taster sessions for FREE with Boston Tennis Club.

12.1.26 - Today in DT, the children designed their front cover and wrote the bulb for their Three Little Pigs book.
8.1.26 Today in music we learned about dynamics. We used our voices to pretend to be the characters from the story, ‘The 3 Little Pigs’.
7.1.26 - Today in PE, the children were learning all about the different types of jump and they even tried jumping from height.

17.12.25 - Today, the library van came to visit, and all of the children were able to choose a book to read in the classroom.

5.12.25 - Today in Geography, the children learnt all about different types of maps. We looked at a variety of maps and then the children followed a map around school to find buried treasure.
26.11.25 - Today in RE, we learnt all about the Christmas Story. The children then acted out the story themselves!
25.11.25 - Today in geography, we went on a walk around our local area. The children really enjoyed looking and listening round our local area.
25.11.24 - Today in DT, the children looked at Mary Anning and then we even made our own follis using salt dough.
20.11.2025 - today in maths the children learned about 3D shapes. We explored which 3D shapes could roll. We made 3D shapes out of playdough. We played a shapes game on the interactive board and played a shape guessing game. Well done to all the children!
13.11.2025 - Today in maths, we played lots of different games and practical activities. We were consolidating our learning about addition and subtraction.
11.11.25 - Today in computing, the children began drawing a scene from The Three Little Pigs on laptops.
10.11.25 - Today in DT, the children began look in at fossils, noticing similarities and differences between them.
6.11.2025 - today we had a very exciting visit from Dino Star. They showed us some real life fossils and we had the chance to touch them. Next we made wax rubbings of fossils and made our own fossils out of clay.
4.11.25 - Today in science, the children looked at the different signs of spring, summer, autumn and winter. They noticed that during autumn and winter, the weather becomes windier. To explore this, we used a balloon and our own paper airplanes outside to see what happens when the wind blows.
3.11.25 - Today in geography, the children drew their own houses and then made them using junk modelling. They cut up cereal boxes, taped them together and added the features of their houses.
22.10.25 - Today, the children had lots of fun drawing their own pumpkin faces, and then they got to put their hands inside a real pumpkin! 🎃
20.10.25 - This week, we read the story Owl Babies. The children enjoyed creating their own owls by cutting and sticking.

8.10.25 - Today in PE, the children were practicing their balancing. We walked along benches, jumped over different equipment and even played twister, which the children loved!

1.10.25 - Today, the library can came to visit Hawthorn Tree School. The children looked at different stories and chose one to keep in school and share with their friends.
