Coronation Videos
The following videos are for the children to use to help them practise their part in our Coronation Parade
Sing
Some words they can't be spoken, only sung
So hear a thousand voices shouting love There's a place, there's a time in this life When you sing what you are feelingFind your feet, stand your ground
Don't you see right now the world is listening To what we say?Sing it louder, sing it clearer
Knowing everyone will hear you Make some noise, find your voice tonight Sing it stronger, sing together Make this moment last forever Old and young, shouting love tonightTo sing we've had a lifetime to wait
(Time to wait, lifetime to wait) And see a thousand faces celebrate (Celebrate, faces celebrate)You brought hope, you brought light
Conquered fear, no it wasn't always easy Stood your ground, kept your faith Don't you see right now the world is listening To what we say?Sing it louder, sing it clearer
Knowing everyone will hear you Make some noise, find your voice tonight Sing it stronger, sing together Make this moment last forever Old and young, shouting love tonightSome words they can't be spoken, only sung
To hear a thousand voices shouting love And light and hope Just sing Just sing Just sing Just singSing it louder, sing it clearer
Knowing everyone will hear you Sing Sing it stronger, sing together Make this moment last forever SingHear a thousand voices shouting love
The Night Animals
This morning in class, we joined a virtual school event with Waterstones and the children’s author Sarah Ann Jukes. Sarah has written a moving and uplifting story, The Night Animals, about a girl called Nora and ghost animals that visit her.
Nora's mum has good days and bad days, but the bad days are getting worse. It's been just the two of them for always, and they don't need anyone else. When the rainbow-shimmering ghost animals Nora used to see when she was small start to reappear, she's convinced that they hold all the answers. Along with new friend Kwame, Nora follows a glittering ghostly fox, hare, raven and otter on the adventure of a lifetime, helping her to find the strength she needs to help her family.
After the webinar, the children discussed which animal might be their night animal and used 5 adjectives the describe them. You can see some of the children’s choices in the photos below.
Stem Day
On Tuesday 24th January, 12 girls from Year 5 visited Boston High School for a STEM Day. STEM means Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
When we arrived, the Headteacher explained the day to us and the activities that we were going to take part in. He showed us the STEM timetable and then we all left to go to different classrooms. We did Egg Parachuting first. We had an egg which we could not break. If we did, we would lose points (we had 10 points to spend). We chose materials to cover the egg and made a parachute to make sure it didn’t break. Then we threw it from a balcony. We kept all of our points!
In the next activity, Keeping it Cool, all the groups had 1 piece of chocolate and 20 points. This time we chose materials to prevent the chocolate from melting in a small oven. Our chocolate only melted a little bit.
Then we had lunch, hot dogs and chips, and for dessert we had a cupcake. After, we did another activity where we had to use materials to build a sledge. We used metal, a tube, plastic, a zipline, pliers, scissors and duct tape. We had to test our sledge to see how fast it would travel along the zipline. Our sledge travelled at 0.26 seconds.
Hawthorn Tree came in third place in the whole competition. Then we got back on the bus and returned to school.

Reading for Pleasure
As reading continues to be a focus for the children in Squirrel Class, please take a moment to read the latest Reading for Pleasure Newsletter below. We have lots of wonderful books for your child to read, both within our class and the school library.
Red and Gold Disney Hamper
Thank you for all the wonderful donations that have produced a superb Christmas hamper. Tickets are now on sale. Raffle will be drawn after school on Wednesday 14th December.
Space
In preparation for our new Science topic on Space next half term, Squirrel class took part in an online lesson from RAL Space Lab this morning. After having an online tour of the lab, the key features of the 8 planets in our solar system were described. The lesson ended with the children creating their own versions of existing planets or creating new planets of their own, some with a Christmas feel!
Santa Dash
The class had a great time this afternoon taking part in the Santa Dash, with singing. racing, puzzle building and creating Christmas shapes. Well done Squirrels.
Thank you so much to all of you who contributed to the Macmillan Coffee Morning. The children had a lovely time buying and of course eating the lovely cakes that were sent in.
English Writing - Michale Morpurgo Biography
In English the children have complete some fantastic work researching the life of Michael Morpurgo, which they are now using to write a biography.
Science
During Science this half term we have been studying properties of materials. Our last two lessons have been practical lessons where we have been investigating materials that make the best insulators and finding out which materials are soluble and which are insoluble.
Art Lesson Studying Hokusai
During our Art lessons this term we are studying the work of Hokusai. Today we have been making print blocks inspired by Hokusai's print of The Great Wave of Kanagawa.
It was wonderful to welcome everyone to Squirrel's Class last week. All the children were eager to work and we are looking forward to the year ahead. We will use our class page to share all the fun things we are doing with you.
