GROUP A PHONICS SESSION CONSOLIDATING SET 1 SOUNDS

GROUP A

PHONICS PHYSICAL FOLLOW-UP

After each phonics video this week, have a go at this Noisy Letter Phonics jump activity.

It is fun & engaging and will support your child in retaining the new sounds that they have learnt over the past couple of weeks.

It is extremely simple to create, requiring just chalk and the ground, yet is a great way to consolidate phoneme-grapheme correspondence in an active way. It’s also a great assessment tool to quickly see which letters they are not so secure on and need to become a target for practise.

Write the new sounds we are consolidating this week: b, f, e, h, sh, l

Write more than one of each of these to give your child plenty of practise for jumping.

You can play this in 2 ways. The first way is to jump from letter to letter, noisily shouting out the sound (not the letter name) as they land in it.

For example, jump on the sh and shout “shhhhhhh.” You can then change the volume to add to the fun, so the next time they must whisper, or alternatively say it s-l-o-w-l-y, squeaky, scared etc.

Repeat a number of times for this weeks sounds.
