Year 2 - Mrs Trigg
Welcome to the Year 2 Fox Cubs Class!
Please keep checking our class page for updates and information about your childs learning!
In Year 2 the adults in our classroom are myself (Mrs Trigg) Mon-Thurs and Mrs Sykes on Fridays. Mrs Sykes, Miss Aida and Miss Gardner will also be helping to support the children's learning throughout the week. We are all looking forward to being a part of your child's Year 2 journey!
Please also keep up to date with releveant information on Class Dojo or speak to any adult with our open door policy at the end of the schoool day.
Important information
Your child's PE days will be on Thursday (outdoors) and Friday (indoors). Please could all children come into school in their PE kits on these days.
Spellings will take place every Friday. Your child will take new spellings home to practice over the week with their test taking place every Friday. Please ensure your child brings their spelling folder to school on Fridays.
Reading is paramount to a child's education. Please read with your child at home and send their reading book and record into school every day.
Christmas Party
Today we had Christmas dinner and Christmas party! We’ve had a great time!
Hanukkah
In RE we have been learning about Jewish celebrations around winter time and have been looking at Hanukkah. We learnt how Jewish people celebrate Hanukkah and the reasons behind it and we created our own menorahs that are lit each day over the 8 days of Hanukkah!
Christmas Hamper
WOW! Look at our Year 2 Christmas hamper. Thank you to everyone who helped us create such an amazing collection of ‘yellow’ items! Raffle tickets are available through the school office.
Nativity to the Community
Today we had a visit from the local community, including The Haven - Black Swan Care Home to watch our Nativity performance of 'Don't be Afraid'. It was lovely to see the children chat among the visitors. We wish you all a Merry Christmas!
Reading
One of our children offered to read our story of the day to the class today! We’re looking forward to having more children showcase their reading to us all!

Pudsey Bear Visit!!
Sukkot
In RE we have been learning about Judaism and the celebration of Sukkot. We made our own Sukkah hut and used paper fruit and paper chains to decorate it. We learnt how the festival of Sukkot was to help Jewish people remember how Moses freed the slaves of Egypt and wandered the desert for forty years!
Bright Day
We had a fantastic bright day today! The children took part in firework activities and learnt about why we celebrate bonfire night and how to be safe! We made our own rockets and edible sparklers! Take a look!
Computing
Today in computing we used the computers to go onto Sketchpad and practice creating different shapes then editing them, making them different sizes and different colours. It was quite tricky using the mousepad but we soon got the hang of creating lots of different designs!
Well done to our children that achieved 100% attendance this term!
Autumn Art
We decided to enjoy the fallen leaves of autumn this afternoon by making different animals out of leaves and sticks! It was amazing to see all the different creations!
Science
In Science we have been learning about keeping ourselves healthy. We learnt about germs and how easily they can spread especially if we don’t wash our hands properly. We used glitter to represent germs then used paper towels and water to remove them and see which was more effective!
Maths
In maths we have been practicing finding number bonds to 100 using dienes equipment and reknereks! We’ve been looking at using part whole models to find different ways to make 100!
Science
In Science today we learnt about exercise and the impact it had on our bodies, particularly our heart. We sorted different activities into whether they would make our heart beat faster or not and then we took part in some exercises to compare our heart beats!
Wacky Hair Day!
The children all looked amazing for wacky hair day today!
R.E.
In RE we have been carrying on our learning of Harvest Festival and how Christians celebrate Harvest. We role-played donating our fruit, saying our prayers and singing Harvest songs to celebrate!
Tie-Dying
For our Art we have been experimenting with tie dying! We worked in partnerships to explore how we manipulate the fabric and create different designs and patterns. We had a lot of fun!
We have been working hard to partition numbers to 100! Take a look at one of our groups work!
Art
Today in art we have been looking at weaving! We each had our own weaving frame to practice the skill of weaving over and under. We also used fabric to weave in and out of the school fence!
English
In English we have been reading our text Pumpkin Soup! This week we have focused on the characters and writing descriptions about them. We have been trying really hard to use adjectives and conjunctions! Take a look!
First day of Y2
The children had a great first day today! We created our own paper plate fox cubs to hang in our classroom and played some fun games in PE! Well done for a super first day!
