Our Learning Journey

Thursday 25th September- Today in PE we were completing some balancing games.

Wednesday 24th September- The children used some different techniques to add texture to their art work. They used cotton buds and wooden sticks to add spirals, twirls and zigzags.

Monday 22nd September- The children became authors today in English and wrote their own version of the story ‘Field trip to the moon’. The children produced some amazing work and should be very pleased with their first piece of portfolio writing in year 1.

Wednesday 17th September- Thank you to all the parents who attended our parent workshop. It was lovely to see the children so engaged in all the activities. It gave the children an opportunity to be creative and work collaboratively with others.

Wednesday 17th September- The children have enjoyed our space ‘WOW’ day. We had a visit from the planetarium where they learnt about the different planets, stars and information on a British astronaut called Tim Peake

Monday 15th September- This week we will be reading the story ‘field trip to the moon’. Today we looked at the story without reading any words! We discussed how pictures can be used to tell a story and we can see how the characters might be feeling. The children then independently sequenced the story by considering what happened at the start, middle and end.

Friday 12th September- We had our second lesson on the “look, run, avoid” topic in PE. The children were working with their partner to try and grab each others tail. The children then worked in three teams pretending to be lions trying to retrieve the “food” from the hyenas home.

Thursday 11th September- In RE the children made dolly peg Vicars

Wednesday 10th September- In art this term we are looking at the author and illustrator Eric Carle. The children are familiar with some of his books including ‘The very hungry caterpillar’ and ‘Brown bear Brown bear what can you see’. The children painted a sky using the brush strokes they learn last week and added clouds using sponges.

Tuesday 9th September- Well done to the children who completed their summer homework :)

Monday 8th September- In history this term we will be learning about our local area. The children spotted Boston Stump on the playground and tried drawing and building it.

Friday 5th September- outside learning in maths

Thursday 4th September- We have started our first unit at RE where we are discussing different religions but focusing on Christianity. The children looked at different churches and discussed their features. They then created their own stained glass window to decorate our classroom.

Thursday 4th September- The children loved their first PE lesson, they moved around the hall like different animals. We also got the parachute out and played fruit salad, the weather game and popcorn.

Wednesday 3rd September- After a busy first day the children had some time outside to play on the field.

Wednesday 3rd September- We started our first topic on art where the children were learning different brush strokes and patterns.

Wednesday 3rd September- This afternoon the children completed some different Robin based activities to welcome them into the Robin class. They learnt how to draw a Robin, coloured some pictures, made a felt Robin which they will get to hang on the tree in our reading corner.

Wednesday 3rd September- In maths we reviewed the numbers 0-10 and tried writing them in the children’s new exercise books. They also played some counting, sorting and ordering games with their friends.
