Reception - Mrs Tory

25.3.26 - The children have been enjoying racing cars so we constructed a track with masking tape and they wrote signs for the start and finish. They then used their Maths skills to discuss who came 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The cars were so speedy we had to film the race and then use the slow motion to decide who won!

18.3.26 - Playing a subitising game. We hid acorns under the large shells and lifted them to subitise the amounts.

16.3.26 - The children explored 1 less and made books representing amounts from 10 - 1

12.3.26 - As part of Science week we joined the NFU Education for a live lesson - The Big Farming Question. Among the questions there was 'Where does a cow poo?' and 'How do you train a sheep dog?'

12.3.26 - During the last couple of weeks we have been looking at numbers 9 and 10. Today the children listened to the story 'One Duck Stuck' and made a tower for each part of the story. They noticed the pattern of 1 more.

10.3.26 - Spring has sprung!

5.3.26 - World Book Day - Making peg dolls of our book characters and sharing our story books. The children also took part in a quiz to discover how many book covers they could name and they achieved a score that showed how much they love books and reading!

3.3.26 - Today as part of World Book Day we took part in a virtual author session with Michael Rosen.

2/3.3.26 - Bunnies class love reading so instead of celebrating just the one World Book Day we decided to celebrate all week. To start the week we invited Parents/carers to visit school and join us to share books together. The children had a lovely time sharing their favourite books!

27.2.26 - Exploring capital letters by writing our classmates names

26.2.26 - The children learnt how fossils were formed and they help us to find out more about dinosaurs. We made our own dinosaur fossils.

23.2.26 - To start our Topic Bigger Than Me we looked at differerent dinosaurs and noticed their differences and similarities The children then used their physical skills to make their own playdough and then modellled into the dinosaurs we had explored.

Spring Term 2 - Topic Bigger Than Me

This term our Topic is Bigger Than Me which will include looking at dinosaurs, animals, buildings and Easter celebrations.

The children will have opportunties to look into the past and learn new terms such as extinct and endangered. We will be looking at famous buildings and using our skills to build our own. The children will explore patterns of different animals and use their creative skills to paint.

This term we will join in with celebrating famous women as part of nternational Womens Day and during our RE lessons we will learn about Shrove Tuesday and why we may have had pancakes during the half-term holidays. As the term ends we will discover more about the Christian celebrations for Easter.

English

During our English lessons we will be looking at different types of text. The children will find  information from non-fiction books and notice how they differ from fiction books. The children will  extend their knowledge of written text and apply their phonics skills to write CVC words and simple sentences.

During this term we will be celebrating World Book Day for a whole week, inviting Parents to come into school to celebrate story-telling.

Maths

The children will complete their learning on Length, Height and Time and will incorporate this knowledge into everyday situations. The children will progress to Building 9 and 10 and will increase their knowledge numberbonds and addition. Finally the children will explore 3D shapes and how they are made up.

 

 

12.2.26 - We didn't want to miss out on the Chinese/Lunar New Year celebrations so we celebrated a little early! The children prepared the classroom by cleaning and decorating with lanterns, including lots of red items to bring us good luck..As children tried the different foods they learnt that the length of the noodles represents a long life and the tangerines symbolise wealth. It was a challenge to eat with chopsticks but the children showed lots of perseverance.

10.2.26 - During our Maths lessons this week we have explored length and height. We noticed the different heights of the children in our class and used blocks to measure items around the classroom.

6.2.26 - Rain rain go away....not......it helps make the best, runny sludgy mud!

5.2.26 - Today the children chose from a variety of items to make a boat so the Gingerbread man could cross the ;river' safely. We had some very innovative ideas and we tested the boats out....some were very successful.....others not so much. The children discussed how the boats could be improved.

3.2.26 - Today we made Gingerbread men using lots of movements to help our hands become strong. The children mixed the dough, rolled it and then decorated ready to eat later. We made some extra Gingerbread men just in case any decided to run away!! Luckily none did so we can use them later in the week for our dissolving and boat making experiments.

2.2.26 - The children listened to the Gingerbread Man book and discussed what they thought the characters were good at.....baking, running, swimming. The children thought about what they were good at and drew and labelled pictures.

2.2.26 - This week during our Maths sessions the children have been exploring odd and even amounts/numbers. The children were excited to see a giant 10 frame on the carpet and followed instructions to make different sized groups and explore if they were odd or even.

30.1.26 - This week our Picture News was around football and how we should behave when watching and playing. We had lots of ideas and took part in a quiz using thumbs up and thumbs down to show our ideas.

28.1.26 - The children persevered in catching the ball in the cup and used marks to register the amount.

23.1.26 - Big Garden Birdwatch 2026 - the children used the binoculars to spot birds around our outside area.

21.1.26 - We have been looking at Special books relating to our RE lessons. Today the children brought in their own special books and shared them with others. The children had lots of reasons why their books were special, they had read them since a baby, a special person bought them their book and it was in their home language. We had a special treat as Mrs Aida came to our class to read a book written in Polish. She read in both languages and everyone was very impressed.

19.1.26 - Asda Steve came for another visit today! The children were very excited to welcome him back and talk to him about the story of the Littlle Red Hen. Stephen provided ingredients for us to make bread and the children listened carefully to the instructions. It was a lot of hard work but the children rose to the challenge! The chidlren took their baked bread home to enjoy with family.

14.1.26 - The children used their ever improving fine motor skills to use a variety of materials to make some houses for the 3 Little Pigs.

12.1.26 - The children worked together to build dens, just like the 3 Little Pigs. The children left messages for the wolf.

9.1.26 - As part of our Traditional Tales topic we have been reading the enormous turnip. We have been taking part in lots of activities that need teamwork, such as using the parachute, completing puzzles and games, just like the characters in the story. Today we 'grew' our own turnip by completing an experiment. The children were very excited to predict what would happen when all the ingredients were combined and what would happen to the balloon. We had lots of interesting predictions.....now time for the experiment. We had surprised faces and ears covered!!!

6.1.26 - The children arrived with smiles and excitement following their Christmas holidays. They shared their holiday news and were happy to play in the snow.

Spring Term 1 

Topic - Traditional Tales - we will be listening to lots of different traditional tales starting with The Enormous Turnip. We will explore teamwork and how we all work together to achieve.

We will be making Gingerbread Men and not only tasting them but using them in some experiments.

Asda Steve will be visiting this term and teach us how to make bread just like the Little Red Hen.

 

English - We will be progressing in our writing by recalling and writing repeated refrains in the traditional tale the Gingerbread man.

Following on from our bread making we will be discussing and writing instructions.

We will be looking at speech bubbles and thought bubbles and discuss characters.

 

Maths - During our Maths lessons we will look at Alive 5, concentrating on understanding the composition of 0-5. We will move on to 6,7,8 and extend knowledge of combining amounts and finding 1 more and 1 less.

18.12.25 - The children had a lovely party afternoon. We played lots of games such as pass the parcel, musical statues and corners, all with lots of singing and dancing. We finished the afternoon with some party food and celebrations!

4.12.25 - We had a wonderful afternoon making lots of Christmas crafts with Parents. It was lovely to showcase the children in our class and how engaged they are in their learning

1.12.25 - Christmas tree decorating time. The children helped to decorate our tree, adding decorations they had made for the St Nicholas tree festival.

1.12.25 - December has arrived and the time to learn all about Advent. The children were left a letter explaining who would be chosen to open a door each day.

28.11.25 - The children visited the Year 6 class who were busy making lanterns ready for the illumiate parade in Boston town this week. The lady from Transported Art encouraged the children to expore the willow and showed them what the lanterns would look like when complete.

26.11.25 - Today was our first visit to the libary van. The children were very excited to choose a book each that we will share in class.

24.11.25 - This week our afterschool Christmas club children created Santa's that looked very familiar!!

20/21.11.25 - The recent change in the weather has created lots of learning through investigating the outside area. The children noticed how the rain water had frozen over night and the leaves that had fallen had set inside the ice. Today the children noticed white frosty areas in the shade and the defrosted ground in the sunshine.

17.11.25 - We talked about emotions and when we felt happy and sad. We talked about colour and movement and then the children painted to express how they felt. "I'm using green and painting slowly because I feel calm" Ada said.

14.11.25 - Our diya lamps after learning all about Diwali and the festival of lights this week.

11/14.11.25 - Pudsey Bear came to visit us with Asda Steve. He was too busy at the end of the week as he had to be on the television but the children told him our plans to wear pyjamas to school to raise money for Children in Need day.

11.11.25 - The children commemorated Remembrance day today by laying a wreath they made and taking part in the 2 minute silence. They showed a huge amount of respect on their first time at school.

10.11.25 - The children made sheep dog decorations to add to trees for the St Nicholas Christmas tree festival. The theme is Old MacDonald's farm.

11.11.25 - Today the children took part in the Remembrance day service. They had made their own wreaths and laid them and followed the 2 minute silence, showing great respect.

7.11.25 - To celebrate Firework night the children watched as the chocolate melted and then dipped their breadsticks into it. They scooped up sprinkles to make chocolate sparklers. They ate for snack-time but not before making patterns with them in the air!

4.11.25 - This week during our Maths lessons we have been exploring '4'. We have explored 4 sided shapes and noticed them in our outside area. The children also used 2 different coloured blocks and discovered the different way to make up 4.

3.11.25 - To start our new term the children learnt how to be safe around fireworks and made their own firework pictures.

Term 2 

This term our Topic is Festivals and Celebrations and we will be learning more about how people celebrate. 

We will have our first school disco which will be Halloween themed!

We will make diya lamps as we learn about the Diwali festival of lights and make fizzing firework pictures. In the run up to Christmas we will invite our Parents/Carers to join us to make Christmas decorations and sing Christmas songs for them. Our school Christmas Fayre will also be held in school with all invited.

We are invited to watch the KS1 Nativity performance and our famous school Pantomime. 

 

During our English lessons we will be reading a variety of books, especially focussing on our core books - Handa's Surprise, Brown Bear, The Hungry Caterpillar and Jasper's Beanstalk. We will be developing our Phonics knowledge and completing tasks relating to initial, middle and end sounds as we learn to write CVC words.

 

During our Maths lessons we will be focussing on numbers to 5 and understanding how they are made up during practical tasks. We will explore shape in everyday places and discuss their attributes.

20.10.25 - As the end of term approaches the children have been reflecting on their time at school so far. Here are some of their ideas and thoughts.

20.10.25 - We started our day by sharing books together

14.10.25 - This week the children took part in our 'EYFS has talent' show. We saw a huge range of talents, lots of singing, dancing, scooter and bike riding. The children asked their families to sponsor them to raise funds to support our extra curricular activities in Reception. The families have been so generous and we want to say a HUGE thank-you!!

10.10.25 - The children in Reception are learning our school rules.......Take care of our environment

10.10.25 - Today we had our first visit of the year from Asda Steve. He brought ingredients for us to create our own pizzas. We made Elsa, Spiderman and even a train track. We ate together for snacktime.

7.10.25 - Today we sang ‘One elephant went out to play’. The children pretended to be elephants on the spiders web and explored 1 more as they invited ‘1 more’ elephant to play.

6.10.25 - The children made a campfire 🔥 and pretended to toast marshmallows with thr Autumn items 🍂

3.10.25 - The children have built up such strong relationships already with their new peers. This afternoon was spent making friendship bracelets for each other.

1.10.25 - We explored the concept of voting via Picture News and have now started our own daily voting system. Each afternoon the children will take one token each to choose which book they would like to listen to at the end of the day.

30.9.25 - The children explored the school garden and collected items to create a picture.

29.9.25 - Today the children learnt about Harvest Festival. They then designed and created their own scarecrows.

24.9.25 - During our Maths session the children explored size. They cut paper to match the size of the 'present' they wrapped.

23.9.25 - Now the sunflowers have started to decay the children explored the black seeds inside. We will save some of the flower heads to harvest the seeds for next Spring/Summer

23.9.25 - We are part of the Lincolnshire Smiles programme which promotes good oral hygiene. Today the children were excited to brush their teeth for the first time at school!

22.9.25 - During a Maths activity the children played the game 'Guess the rule'. The children took turns to select buttons and chose them for different attributes. The rest of the group had to work out the 'rule'. Sometimes it was the shape, or the size, or the colour .....

18.9.25 - The children explored the paint and made their own choices on their designs. Created were rainbows, houses, stars and lots more!

16.9.25 - Following our Phonics lesson we took advantage of the verrryyy windy weather today. The children used large arm movements to make the long ribbons dance in the wind. Later that day the children created their own kites and tested different materials to secure them.

12.9.25 - The children have been busy this afternoon. They looked in the mirror and noticed their features before drawing a self-portrait. The portraits are now on our gallery wall for everyone to see!

10.9.25 - Bunnies class were very excited to take part in their first PE lesson. The children come to school in their PE kits so we have lots of time to use our bodies. Children can practice getting themselves dressed at home when getting ready for school.

9.9.25 - The children have been busy mark-making in different ways.

5.9.25 - We have completed our first week in Reception - Bunnies class - and the children have been soooo busy!! Colour Monsters, drawing, digging, climbing, making friends and much much more!!

Term 1 

Topic - All about me

We will spend the first term building relationships and getting to know each other.  We will create lots of opportunities for children to play and chat to both adults and their peers. This will allow us to find out all about the children's likes and dislikes, make new friends and explore new tasks. We will finish the term with a Talent show!!

 

Maths - Just Like Me

We will be sorting and noticing objects. How items can be sorted into different groups, using lots of natural items in the outside area.

 

Phonics - Read Write Inc.

The children will be learning to recognise and write Set 1 sounds. We will learn a new sound each day. The children will practice orally blending sounds ready to blend sounds to read. The children will learn rhymes to assist them in forming letters correctly.

We would like to introduce the staff who work within Bunnies class. The Class Teacher is Mrs Tory and we have Mrs Machin  and Mr Woods who are Teaching Assistants. 

Our school year begins on Wednesday 3rd September and the school gates open at 8.40am, please ensure all children have arrived by 8.50am for the Register.

To settle children in the first week we will finish at 12.30pm after lunch, children are to be collected from their classroom door. Please be patient as we get to know Parents/Carers collecting.

From Monday 8th September the children will be in school full-time 8.40am-3.20pm. Collection at the end of the day will be from the EYFS gate leading to the KS1 playground. Enter via the gate at the right of the school site. Please collect chidlren promptly as children can become easily upset if not collected on time.

 

All of our information is relayed via the Seesaw app and an invitation will be given to each child the first week of school. This is an online platform that can be accessed via a mobile phone, tablet or computer.

We use the app to post photographs, videos and examples of learning in school. We also use the app as a way of communicating with families about events and changes so it is really important to join so that you are equipped with all the information you need for your child.

Families have found it very supportive in communicating with their child about their time in school.
