Year 2 Mrs Jenkins

Well our end of term Pirate day/ end of KS1 party was a great success again. Thank you for all your efforts with costumes and their picnic. It has been a fantastic year and I thank you all for your support. From all Fox cubs staff. Have a fabulous summer.

Well we worked hard this morning with our writing, we had lots of drinks breaks and time outside in the shade but after lunch it got too much so we decided to clear out our trays and cool off!

Australia Day- The children enjoyed dressing up, learning about Australia, writing postcards, making Australian Fairy bread, learning songs and many other activities.

Hello and welcome to Fox Cubs Class 2021

A lovely day had by all at Skegness Aquarium. A very hot day so we let the children save some of their money left over to by an ice-cream. We sat nicely in the shade eating our ice-cream while waiting for the coach.

Yesterday was an extremely successful sports day that was enjoyed by all. Everyone took part and showed enthusiasm in the races they chose to take part in. Here are some of the photographs:

Anti-Bullying Week

On Monday we had Holly and Cookie from BUFC come and present us an assembly on Anti-Bullying, reminding the children what bullying looks like and what they are to do if they think it is happening to them.

Their given challenge was for the children to all do or say 'one kind thing' everyday this week, so below are 40 Acts of Kindness that your child may wish to use.

What a fantastic day learning about Guy Fawkes, building fireworks and making fire work pictures. We had a lovely visit from the fire brigade, built our own Guy Fawkes and made bread and soup! Here are a selection of photographs.

In Science we have been learning about how germs spread. We carried out a small experiment using glitter to represent the germs.

Here are some pictures from our Yellow day, spreading the awareness of the importance of looking after ourselves and our mental health.

Harvest Festival
Together in RE with Mrs Orrey and Mrs Stevenson, the Year 2 children discussed what Harvest Festival is and why we celebrate it. Then Mrs Freeston spoke with the children about flower arranging as well as giving the opportunity to all the children to have a go at arranging a flower themselves. It was a lovely experience for all of Year 2 to celebrate Harvest together.

Good evening,

Following the meeting for the Rand Farm residential trip I would just like to let you know that there are only a few places left for those who wish to attend the residential trip.  If you would still like your child to attend please can you complete the deposit payment by the end of this week.  Thank you

The balance of the trip will not be due until the end of January.  Thank you Mrs Jenkins and Miss Morris.

Free resources to support your child across the different curriculum areas can be found on Twinkl.

PE.  PE will take part indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) on a Tuesday and Thursday.  Please make sure your child has the correct PE kit in school.  Shorts, T-shirt, plimsolls or trainers and warmer clothing in the winter for outdoor PE.

Spellings-  Spelling tests will be carried out every Friday.  Please get your child to practise their spellings each week and return the folder on Friday so they can record how many they got and we can provide the new sheet.

TT Rockstars- Shortly your child will receive their own unique password and username for TT Rockstars.  This will help your child learn and recall times table and division facts.  This is part of their maths homework for Year 2.  Thank you

Reading-  Reading books will continue to be changed on a Monday and Thursday.  Your child has also access to books within the class library which they are encouraged to read and keep in their tray.  We always remind your child to take out their book however, we do not go in their book bags and continue to encourage children to be responsible for taking anything out of their bags that they need to return/change.

This week in English we have been writing instructions. Of course we needed to try out our instructions by making Rice Crispie cakes. I think they tasted very good!!

Welcome back to a new school year, I hope you have all enjoyed a lovely summer break and had the opportunity to catch up with family and friends safely.  As we all know we are still in the midst of the pandemic and although things are easing we still need to stay safe and healthy.  Some measures put in place last year will continue as will be explained in the school newsletter.

We will, of course, be beginning with lessons BUT for the first days (at least) we will be concentrating on settling the children in, getting used to new routines, catching up with friends and ensuring a really positive start to Y2.

As before if you need to speak to myself or one of the other adults in the classroom please contact the school to arrange a time for a telephone 'meeting'.  I will always be available if you have any concerns.

There will be a Y2 newsletter soon - but these are just a few reminders for Fox Cubs Class.

PE - Tuesday and Thursday (weather permitting for outdoor lessons)

Your child will need PE kit AND shoes appropriate for outdoor PE - shorts, T-shirt, joggers and a long-sleeved top with plimsolls or trainers (if they bring trainers they MUST be able to get them on and off independently - tying their own laces, please).

Spelling test is on a Friday

Please note at present we will not be having Golden time every Friday for half an hour - BUT it will be replaced by a 'Golden afternoon' at the end of each term. Children will be able to use toys and equipment in school but WILL NOT be allowed to bring in toys from home - due to Covid 19.

We are really looking forward to welcoming you back to our Hawthorn Tree family on Monday.

Mrs Jenkins, Mrs Orrey and Mrs Freiston.
