Welcome to the Governors section of the website. My name is Julie Walmsley and I am the current Chair of Governors for Hawthorn Tree Primary School. I became a governor in July 2019 and completed the NGA Chairs Development Course in November 2021.
My job as the present chair is to work with the other governors of the Governing Body and the Head Teacher, as a team, to carry out our wide range of roles and responsibilities efficiently and effectively for the benefit of our children in the School. As Chair of Governors I meet with the Head Teacher on a regular basis, and all governors try to attend as many school functions as possible, so that we can be part of the school family. In order to educate our children to their full potential, I believe in a close working partnership between pupil, parent, school and the community and as governors we will endeavour to achieve this aim.
As a Governing Body, we have 3 core functions to follow:

Ensuring there is clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.

Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the performance management of staff.

Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
Our vision is to develop an outstanding school for the local community where our values of resilience, respect, diversity, compassion and innovation are evident in everything we do. Through nurturing our children academically, socially and emotionally, we provide them with secure foundations for life, so that they leave Hawthorn Tree with an excellent all-round education and a love of learning. Our school motto ‘Where everybody is somebody’ permeates throughout our school.
